Ingredients

1 large flatbread (store-bought or homemade)

1 medium ripe pear, thinly sliced

1 tablespoon unsalted butter

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (plus extra for garnish)

1 round (8 oz) Brie cheese

1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (optional)

2 tablespoons honey

1/4 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper

Balsamic glaze for drizzling

Pinch of salt

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to ensure it’s ready for the flatbread.

Caramelize the Pears: In a medium skillet set over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter. Once melted, add the brown sugar, stirring gently until the mixture begins to bubble. Introduce the thinly sliced pears and fresh thyme. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pears are tender and coated in a caramelized sauce. Once done, remove the skillet from heat and set it aside.

Prepare the Flatbread: Place the flatbread on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper for easy cleanup. For added flavor, lightly brush the top of the flatbread with olive oil, if desired.

Add the Cheese: If you prefer a creamier texture, slice the Brie cheese in half horizontally. Position the Brie in the center of the flatbread. If you choose to use mozzarella, scatter it evenly around the Brie for a delightful melty addition.

Top with Caramelized Pears: Evenly distribute the luscious caramelized pears atop the Brie, ensuring that you include some of the rich caramel sauce drizzled from the skillet for extra sweetness.

Season and Bake: Sprinkle the flatbread with freshly cracked black pepper and a pinch of salt for seasoning. Carefully place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the flatbread is crisp and the Brie is deliciously melty.

Drizzle and Serve: Once baked, take the flatbread out of the oven and drizzle honey generously across the top. Add a swirl of balsamic glaze for a hint of tang and garnish with fresh thyme leaves for an aromatic finish.

Slice and Enjoy: Allow the flatbread to cool for a few moments before slicing it into pieces. Serve warm as a delightful appetizer or a light meal for friends and family.
