Ingredients

1 baguette, sliced into ½ inch pieces

1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced

½ cup fresh basil leaves, finely chopped

8 oz cream cheese, softened to room temperature

2 tablespoons honey

1 tablespoon balsamic glaze, plus extra for drizzling

Salt and pepper, to taste

Olive oil, for brushing the baguette

Optional: Cracked black pepper or red pepper flakes for garnishing

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C) to ensure it’s hot enough for baking the bread.

Prepare Baguette Slices: Arrange the baguette slices in a single layer on a baking sheet. Using a pastry brush, lightly coat both sides of each slice with olive oil to promote even crisping.

Toast the Baguette: Place the baking sheet in the oven and toast the baguette slices for approximately 5-7 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy. Keep a close watch to prevent them from burning.

Mix the Cream Cheese: In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and honey. Use a spatula or a whisk to mix until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Season to taste with a pinch of salt and freshly cracked pepper.

Combine Strawberries and Basil: In another bowl, gently combine the sliced strawberries with the finely chopped basil. Drizzle in 1 tablespoon of balsamic glaze and add a pinch of salt and pepper. Toss gently to ensure the strawberries are well-coated.

Assemble the Crostini: After the toasted baguette slices have cooled slightly, spread a generous dollop of the honey cream cheese mixture over each slice. Top each with a spoonful of the strawberry and basil mixture, allowing some of the strawberries to tumble over the edges for a rustic look.

Drizzle and Garnish: To finish, drizzle an additional splash of balsamic glaze over the topped crostini. For a bit of heat, you may also sprinkle cracked black pepper or red pepper flakes on top, if desired.

Serve: Transfer the assembled crostini to a serving platter. Serve immediately while the bread is still warm and crispy for the best texture and flavor.
