Ingredients

For the Turkey Burgers:

1 lb ground turkey

1/4 cup whole wheat breadcrumbs

1/4 cup finely chopped onion

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 tablespoon olive oil (for grilling)

For the Peach Salsa:

2 ripe peaches, diced

1/2 red bell pepper, finely chopped

1/4 red onion, finely chopped

1 jalapeño, seeded and minced (adjust based on heat preference)

1 tablespoon honey

1 tablespoon lime juice

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh cilantro, chopped (optional for garnish)

For Serving:

Whole grain burger buns

Crisp lettuce leaves

Sliced avocado (optional)

Extra lime wedges (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Salsa: In a medium bowl, mix together the diced peaches, red bell pepper, red onion, and minced jalapeño. Drizzle in the honey and lime juice, seasoning with salt and pepper to taste. Gently toss all ingredients to combine. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes; this allows the flavors to meld beautifully.

Make the Turkey Patties: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey with breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Stir the mixture until just combined, being careful not to overmix as it can lead to tougher patties.

Shape the Patties: Divide the turkey mix into four equal sections. Shape each section into a burger patty, approximately 3/4 inch thick. To ensure even cooking and prevent puffing, create a small indentation in the center of each patty.

Preheat the Grill: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat, aiming for about 400°F (200°C). Lightly brush the grill grates with olive oil to prevent sticking.

Grill the Burgers: Carefully place the turkey patties on the hot grill. Cook for 5-7 minutes on one side until golden brown, then flip them over and grill for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C). Avoid pressing down on the patties with a spatula while cooking to retain their juiciness.

Toast the Buns (Optional): In the last few minutes of cooking, if you’d like, place the cut-side down burger buns on the grill. Grill until they are lightly toasted and warm.

Assemble the Burgers: On the bottom half of each toasted bun, place a grilled turkey patty. Top generously with peach salsa and lettuce. If desired, add sliced avocado before capping it off with the top half of the bun.

Serve: Garnish your burgers with extra lime wedges and fresh cilantro if you wish. Enjoy your grilled turkey burgers alongside a refreshing salad or a side of sweet potato fries!
