Ingredients

1 ½ lbs ground turkey

1 cup whole wheat breadcrumbs

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 large egg

¼ cup milk

¼ cup BBQ sauce (plus additional for topping)

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1 teaspoon dried oregano

½ teaspoon salt

¼ teaspoon black pepper

½ cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Coate a loaf pan lightly with cooking spray or oil to prevent sticking.

Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, whole wheat breadcrumbs, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, milk, BBQ sauce, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. If you choose to include cheddar cheese, add it to the mixture as well.

Mix Well: Using your hands or a wooden spoon, gently mix all the ingredients together until they are just combined. Avoid overmixing, as this can result in a denser meatloaf.

Shape the Meatloaf: Carefully transfer the meat mixture into the prepared loaf pan. Press it down evenly and shape it to form a traditional loaf.

Add Topping: Generously spread a thin layer of BBQ sauce over the top of the meatloaf. This will add flavor and keep the loaf moist while baking.

Bake: Place the meatloaf in the preheated oven. Bake for 45-55 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C). The top should have a delicious caramelized finish.

Rest and Garnish: Upon removing the meatloaf from the oven, allow it to rest for about 10 minutes. This resting period enhances the flavor and texture. Before serving, sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley for a vibrant touch.

Serve: Slice the meatloaf into portions and serve warm, ideally accompanied by your favorite sides, such as creamy mashed potatoes or roasted seasonal vegetables, for a satisfying meal!
